CRESCENT DART

AGROTIS TRUX

Fig 1
ADULT: Wingspan 35-42mm.  The forewings of this species vary from grey to dark brown but careful scrutiny makes this an easy moth to identify. The pale stigmata that is outlined in black and the white hindwings should confirm ID. The forewing is fairly pointed with a distinct straight leading edge. CHRYSALIS: Located underground. LARVA: Dark grey with pale dorsal band. Feeds on thrift, knotgrass, and plantains. BEHAVIOUR: Attracted to light and sugar. HABITAT: Coastal near dunes and cliffs. FLIGHT PERIOD: July - August. STATUS: More common towards the South and West coastlines.
